The number of books and other publications published in Slovenia is growing, the National Statistics Office said on Wednesday. In 2007 the number of books and brochures increased by 9.5% over the year before to 5,129.
The figure includes 3,631 books and 1,498 brochures. A total of 1,038 of literary works were published.
Original books accounted for 85.4% of last year's production and the rest were translations. More than three quarters of the publications were first impressions.
The Statistics Office recorded 1,038 literary works in 2007, 523 of which were written by Slovenian and 515 by other authors.
Almost two fifths (39.1%) were novels, 25.6% were books containing short prose, 19.8% books of poetry, 1.8% drama works, and 13.7% other kinds of literature.
