The seventh annual Sanje (Dreams) festival bringing literature, music and art to the streets of Ljubljana begins on Thursday evening at Zvezda Park. The festival, highlighting the importance of imagination and dreams in today's world, will be opened by Rok Zavrtanik, the director of the publisher Sanje.
The opening evening will also feature a fairy-tale reading by former Slovenian First Lady Stefka Kucan, a great supporter and honorary sponsor of the festival, followed by a concert of Slovenian singer-songwriter Ursula Ramoves.
During the festival, which will be entertaining Ljubljana until 10 September, an exhibition of the children's book "Zvezdica zaspanka" (Twinkle Sleepyhead) by Fran Milcinski - Jezek, a well-known Slovenian writer of youth books, will be on display at Zvezda Park.
Illustrations by Gorazd Vahn will be accompanied by a text in Slovenian and English, while mp3 versions of the story will be available in Slovenian, English, Italian and German.
Saturday evenings will also be dedicated to Milcinski - Jezek. The Improliga impro theatre will perform a variation on his poem "Preprosta ljubezen" (Simple Love).
Tuesday evenings will be reserved for book clubs, while poetry readings by promising young authors will be organised as part of the Mlade rime (Young Rhymes) programme.
Like every year, Sanje will also bring numerous music events. The highlights include Slovenian jazz singer Mia Znidaric, musician Tomaz Pengov, folk band Katalena and Slovenian band Gal in Severa Gjurin.
