Wages of 57,000 Workers to Increase by 3.9% in August

Ljubljana, 1 August

Basic wages will increase by 3.9% in August for some 57,000 workers covered by the collective bargaining agreement for the corporate sector, in accordance a deal that the employers and trade unions signed end of May.

If inflation exceeds 4.55%, the difference will translate into an additional rise in January 2009.
A further rise of 2.3% is planned for August 2009, and another one, in January 2010, equaling the difference between 2.7% and the actual rate of inflation.
The agreement stipulates the lowest holiday allowance at EUR 665 for 2008 and EUR 686 for 2009. The companies suffering losses are to pay out a holiday allowance in the amount of minimum pay at least, which will increase by 4% in August, from EUR 566 to EUR 589.
According to the agreement adjusting wages and benefits for 2008 and 2009, employees are entitled to commuting allowance covering at least 60% of the costs for the cheapest public transportation.
They are also to receive at least EUR 3.45 a day for lunch, unless the company arranges a meal for them.
The agreement affects employees who are not covered by sectoral collective agreements in the corporate sector.
