Sava Joint Venture Opens Biggest Wood Biomass Plant in Balkans
Panensa, a joint venture of Slovenian chemistry-through-tourism conglomerate Sava and Bosnian wood processing company Panefin, launched on Thursday a wood biomass factory in Srbac, Bosnia-Herzegovina. The biggest factory of the kind in the Balkans will serve as an energy base for Sava and other Slovenian companies.
The factory's wood biomass products, such as pellets and briquettes, which are used for substituting fossil fuel, will also be shipped to West European markets.
The EUR 4.5m facility, which is to employ 25 people, is only the first phase of the investment which is eventually expected to produce 60,000 tonnes of wood pellets and briquettes a year.
According to Sava, the successful opening of the plant also marks the beginning of the introduction of alternative sources of energy in the Republic of Srpska, the Serb entity in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
This is an important step in the implementation of the long-term energy strategy of the Sava group, Sava chairman Janez Bohoric said at the opening.
Both Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik and Bohoric highlighted at the ceremony the strategic importance of the factory and pointed to the numerous business opportunities it entailed.
