Vujacic Signs Three-Year Contract with Lakers

Los Angeles, 29 July

Slovenian guard Sasa Vujacic signed Monday a three-year, US$ 15m contract to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers, even though he was apparently offered more money in Europe.

"I'm happy to stay in L.A., I'm happy to stay with the Lakers. That was my first option. It would be hard to leave," the 24-year-old Vujacic said.
After the 2007/08 season Vujacic was a restricted free agent. The Lakers had made him an initial offer of US$ 2.6m a year, which prompted his agent to start talks with European clubs.
Agent Rob Pelinka said Vujacic could have earned more by accepting an offer to play abroad. "The opportunity there was more lucrative. His heart was here," Pelinka said, according the press.
Vujacic averaged an NBA career-high 8.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 72 games this past season, and 8.1 points 2.2 rebounds and 0.8 assists while playing in all 21 playoff games.
