Environment Minister Janez Podobnik held a meeting with Montenegrin Minister of Tourism and the Environment, Predrag Nenezic, in Podgorica on Monday, at which they signed a memorandum on cooperation between their ministries.
Montenegro is actively involved in activities concerning the protection and sustainable development of the Adriatic Sea. It signed in May a joint statement on the protection of the Dinaric arc together with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Slovenia and other countries of Southeast Europe, the Environment Ministry said in a statement.
The common interests of the ministries also include the formal expansion of existing cooperation of Slovenia, Croatia and Italy in the protection of the northern Adriatic to the area of the entire Adriatic, according to the ministry.
Podobnik also met Montenegrin Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Gordana Djurovic, discussing bilateral cooperation and Montenegro's efforts in joining the EU and NATO.
