Czech, Slovenian Labour Ministers on Free Flow of People

Ljubljana, 15 July

Labour, the Family and Social Affairs Minister Marjeta Cotman received on Tuesday her Czech counterpart Petr Necas. The pair discussed the Slovenian EU presidency and topics related to the free flow of people in the 27-nation bloc.

Cotman presented Slovenia's preparations and activities during its stint as EU president, while Necas touched on the draft priorities for the 2009 Czech EU presidency, according to a press release from the ministry.
The ministers also touched on other topical issues regarding social affairs and employment in the EU, stressing that all EU newcomers should step up efforts for the European job markets to be fully open to all EU citizens.
Cotman pointed to the example of France, which has just recently opened its job market for EU members from eastern and central Europe, including Slovenia.
Necas meanwhile explained that during its EU presidency, the Czech Republic will place special emphasis on the free flow of people, and on the efforts for an open, safe and competitive Europe. He also thanked Cotman for sharing Slovenia's experience in presiding over the union.
