93% of High School Leavers Pass Exams

The Slovenian National Examinations Board announced on Monday that 92.86% of final-year students had passed the matura, the national high school leaving exams. On average students scored 19.89 out of 34 points.

The head of the National Examinations Board, Darko Zupanc, said that this year's pass rate was slightly better than that of last year, when 92.65 percent of high school leavers passed.
However, there was a slight dip in the number of top-flight students, with a score of 30 or above. This year 378 students will be honoured with a special plaque for achieving an excellent grade, compared to last year's 427.
The number of students with full marks has also dropped: to 38 students, down from 49 in 2007.
Along with the matura exams, a total of 8,799 students sat vocational exams this year, of which 88.48% (87.53% last year) passed.
Meanwhile, Zupanc said that 38 students from Slovenia and 16 foreigners had passed the international version of the matura, the International Baccalaureate, of which 13 students scored full marks.
The results of the matura have been made available online as of today. Students have been given three days to appeal their results.
Those who failed or did not sign up for the spring term can register for the autumn term until 15 July.
Head of the Higher Education Directorate at the Education Ministry Janez Mezan told the press that this year's matura, conducted in 88 secondary schools across Slovenia, passed smoothly.
The National Examination Centre dealt only with minor violations and mistakes, which, however, did not affect the credibility of the results, as overall, the matura was held in line with the regulations, said Mezan.
