Slovenia's population grew by 15,489 (0.8%) to 2,025,866 persons in 2007, continuing recent a growth trend fuelled primarily by immigration.
According to the Statistics Office, the highest growth was registered in the number of foreigners with temporary residence, which now stands at over 36,000. The number of Slovenian citizens rose by 423 persons.
The number of men living in Slovenia grew in 2007, whereas the number of women fell slightly. However, women still outnumber men by around 25,000, the data show.
The Statistics Office found that the average age in Slovenia stood at 41.1 years in 2007.
There was a continuing trend of ageing in the population, with an age breakdown showing persons above 64 years of age outnumber those below 15 years by 164:100.
Slovenia's population first exceeded 2 million in 2005.
