PM Thanks Army for Help during EU Presidency

Kranj, 11 July

Prime Minister Janez Jansa thanked the Slovenian Armed Forces in Kranj on Friday for their cooperation during Slovenia's stint at the helm of the EU. The military was responsible for security and logistics of the events related to the EU presidency.

The Kranj barracks were the base for over 420 soldiers who worked on some 200 presidency events taking place in Slovenia. The army was in charge of safety and transport for nearly 30,000 people.
Jansa added that the military's logistics support was vital for staying on the budget. According to preliminary analysis, Slovenia did not exceed the planned EUR 62.3m, which makes it the first presiding country to stay on budget.
Prime Minister also commended the army for their support in the days following Kosovo's independence declaration, when members of Slovenian army were an important source of information for the diplomacy.
EU officials and others who came to Slovenia on account of the EU presidency felt very safe, said Jansa.
Apart from Jansa, the troops were addressed by Slovenian Chief-of-Staff Lt-Gen Albin Gutman and Defence Minister Karl Erjavec, who also thanked and commended the soldiers.
