The first ministerial of defence ministers from SE Europe was launched on Friday. Slovenia's Karl Erjavec, who is chairing the meeting, said Slovenia was placing special attention on regional cooperation in defence, the topic that is in the focus of the two-day talks.
According to Erjavec, the countries share the vision that sees the partner states in the region take on an increasing share of the burden in regional cooperation.
Slovenia's defence minister also pointed to Slovenia's efforts during its ongoing stint as EU president.
Slovenia managed during its six month term to continue with military and civilian crisis response operations in order to ensure stability and peace.
The country also strove for developing the military and civilian capabilities and pointing out the weaknesses in the area, Erjavec said.
This meeting also proves that stability and continuing development and the European prospects of the Western Balkans are in the EU's interest, he added.
The meeting is attended by Montenegrin Defence Minister Boro Vucinic, Hungary's Imre Szerkeres and Bosnia's Selmo Cikotic. Also participating are deputy defence ministers of Albania, Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia, and representatives of Italy, the EU and NATO.
