Culture Minister Presents Slovenian EU Presidency's Results
Culture Minister Vasko Simoniti focused on the achievements of the Slovenian EU presidency in intercultural dialogue as he outlined the achievements of the country's six-month stint in Brussels on Monday.
Simoniti, speaking at the meeting of the European Parliament Committee on Culture and Education, underlined the adoption of the action plan for the next three-year period and of the Council conclusions on intercultural competencies. These conclusions aim at promoting intercultural dialogue, one of the presidency priorities.
The aim of all activities in intercultural dialogue was to internalise it. "This was meant for the younger generation that has to internalise that different people live together in harmony," said the minister.
He also touched on audiovisual policy, where he emphasised the importance of the broad discussion on creative online content initiated by the presidency, the adoption of Council conclusions on media literacy and adoption of a general approach to the new Safer Internet programme, the presidency's press release reads.
According to Simoniti, Slovenia also managed to insert culture into the Lisbon Strategy for Growth and Jobs, meaning that culture became one of the major economic factors and that funds for culture would also be received from companies.
Simoniti hailed the inclusion, saying this meant that culture was recognised as an activity that has its own character, both economically and in terms of development.
He also presented the achievements of the conferences organised by the Culture Ministry during the presidency and the results of efforts to mainstream culture into the EU's international cooperation with partner countries.
