The national motorway company, DARS, opened on Monday a 5.5-kilometre motorway section between Lesnica and Kronovo, a part of E-70 link between Fernetici (Italian border), Ljubljana and Obrezje (Croatian border). The EUR 69.9m section features 19 structures, including three viaducts spanning 747 metres in total.
The only remaining part being constructed on the 105-kilometre motorway link between Ljubljana and Obrezje in eastern Slovenia is a 15-kilometre section between the towns of Trebnje and Mirna Pec, which is to open by the end of 2009.
Since the launch of the national motorway construction programme in 1994, DARS has opened a total of 397.2 kilometres of motorways, high-speed roads and other roads from the programme, of which 19.6 kilometres were constructed this year, the company wrote.
The 5.5-kilometre motorway section Sentvid-Koseze, which is aimed at speeding up traffic at the northern thoroughfares to Ljubljana and which includes a one-kilometre tunnel, is meanwhile expected to be open on 1 July, according to DARS.
