This year's 6th traditional Museum Summer Night with museums and galleries open free of charge late into the night will mark the beginning of summer on 21 June. Over 200 events will be organised in 25 towns across Slovenia.
In Ljubljana, 27 institutions will be included in the programme, which promotes galleries and museums as places of learning and leisure.
The programme, which will last all day long, will include workshops, exhibition openings, film screenings, performances, lectures, guided tours and concerts, Irena Marusic of the Technical Museum of Slovenia, who coordinates the project, told the press.
The festival, organised by the Slovenian Museum Society, will begin with a cycling trip to the Technical Museum Bistra, near Vrhnika, at 9 AM and conclude with concerts of the Slavic fusion band Fake Orchestra at Metelkova alternative arts centre and the group Putrovke at the International Centre of Graphic Arts (MGLC) in Ljubljana's main park, Tivoli.
The first Museum Summer Night was organised in 2003 and attracted 27 cultural institutions from Ljubljana, while some 60 galleries and museums from 17 towns around Slovenia participated last year. On average, 15,000 to 20,000 people visit the event.
