European Innovation Forum in Ljubljana

Ljubljana, 16 June

A European Innovation Forum entitled Innovation for Growth and Employment in Europe, organised by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) and the Association of Informatics and Telecommunications at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, is taking place in Ljubljana on Monday.

Slovenia's investment into information and communication technology (ICT) stands at 1.9% of the country's GDP, which is bellow the EU average of 2.7%, president of the Association of Informatics and Telecommunications, Iztok Klancnik, said at the forum opening Monday morning.
The Ljubljana Innovation Forum continues the series of fora that have been held in Warsaw, Copenhagen, Prague, Berlin and Lisbon in 2005, 2006 and 2007. The purpose of the innovation fora is to promote local, national, and European innovation policies in key fields for the ICT industry.
Creating a stimulative environment for innovations is one of the main goals of new cycle of the Lisbon Strategy.
According to Klancnik, the Association of Informatics and Telecommunications promotes investment into ICT, support for ICT export, appearing together on foreign markets, assuring sufficient numbers of IT experts, easier employment for foreign experts, and lower taxes on salaries.
CompTIA is a global association of 22,000 members from 102 states that represents the interests of the IT industry in politics, business, and education.
