Toll Stickers Available as of Tuesday
The national motorway company, DARS, is to deliver on Monday to authorised sellers 450,000 motorway toll stickers, while an additional 50,000 vignettes will be delivered by Wednesday to tolling stations across Slovenia. Vignettes will be put on sale on Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest, according to DARS.
DARS will deliver today the first shipment of a total of three million vignettes for cars and 60,000 vignettes for motorcycles which are expected to be put on sale this year.
The Slovenian-Czech Riko-Optaglio consortium, which has been selected to print motorway stickers that Slovenia plans to introduce on 1 July, was not able to print all vignettes agreed in the contract due to the tight deadline.
DARS told the press today that the remaining vignettes for this year will be delivered to authorised sellers by 15 July.
Apart from tolling stations, toll stickers will be also available at over 1,000 petrol stations, tourist agencies, kiosks, post offices and offices of the Automobile Association of Slovenia (AMZS). In other countries vignettes will be sold at all major petrol stations.
This year only the half-yearly vignette will be sold, while the annual stickers for 2009 will be put on sale at the beginning of December.
DARS CEO Tomislav Nemec handed over today the first Slovenian toll sticker, carrying the serial number A 0000001, to Transport Minister Radovan Zerjav.
Zerjav said on the occasion that he was pleased with the vignette project going as planned, adding that many things still needed to be tended to to ensure that the project is carried on successfully.
He pointed to the need to draft detailed regulations, equip supervisors and remove and adjust tolling stations.
According to Nemec, the fist phase of the project is going in line with the financial plan and is to cost about EUR 3.2m, excluding the removal of tolling stations and other interventions which are to be carried out later.
Car drivers will have to pay EUR 35 for a half-year vignette and EUR 55 for the annual sticker. The annual sticker for motorcycles will cost EUR 27.50. Drivers using motorways without a vignette after 1 July will risk fines ranging from EUR 300 to EUR 800.
