The 16th annual exhibition "Bologna after Bologna" which displays a selection of best foreign-language children's books featured at this year's Bologna Children's Book Fair, opened on Tuesday in Ljubljana's largest bookshop, Konzorcij.
Running until Saturday, the exhibition features almost a thousand titles in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish, which were a part of the Bologna fair at the end of March and beginning of April.
Milan Matos, director of the Mladinska knjiga publishing house, said at the opening that it was because of children, primarily the youngest ones, that the publisher brought to Ljubljana books from the fair, including nominated and awarded titles.
According to Matos, the publisher does this as it believes that children's books allow children to open the door to the beautiful world of imagination, open up new horizons and knowledge as well as take them into their world of dreams.
The opening was also attended by Croatian author Svjetlan Junakovic, who was nominated at the fair for the main award for illustration - Andersen's Award, and received a special prize for his book of illustrations.
Ljubljana's main library, Knjiznica Otona Zupancica, which put on the show along with Mladinska knjiga, will also organise readings for children on Wednesday and Thursday morning.
