Koper, 16 May

The Luka Koper group, centred around the port operator of the same name, boosted its Q1 revenues by 15% to EUR 36.1m year-on-year. The company's net profit stood at EUR 8.4m in the first three months of 2008, up 33% over Q1 last year.

The company transshipped four million tonnes of goods in the January-March period, recording no increase over the amount shipped in Q1 2007. It did ship more cars and containers than in the same period last year.
Luka Koper transshipped nearly 163,000 vehicles, a 45% rise, while the number of containers rose by 19% to just over 86,000.
The fruit terminal saw an 831% increase in managed cargo, mainly because of bananas.
The number of trains coming to and from Slovenia's sole port increased by 5% to 4140. Some 70% of goods that leave the port do so by train.
The Slovenian market accounts for 31% of all the cargo, while 69% ends in other markets, mainly Austria, Italy and Hungary.
