Centre for Slovenian Studies Opens in Cleveland

Cleveland, 17 May

A Centre for Slovenian Studies was officially inaugurated at the Cleveland State University in the US state of Ohio on Friday.

Although based in Cleveland, the home of the biggest ethnic Slovenian community in the United States, the centre will carry out its activities in association with the universities Bowling Green, Kent State and the Lakeland Community College.
The centre will specialise in the study, preservation and promotion of Slovenian language and culture, according to a statement by the Slovenian Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology.
That way it is expected to contribute to slowing down the assimilation of the Slovenian community in the US, as well as promote interest in Slovenian language and culture.
In addition to offering Slovenian language courses and study programmes, it will help run the archive at the Slovenian Museum and Archive in Cleveland.
The centre was opened by Higher Education Minister Mojca Kucler Dolinar, who is paying a visit to Cleveland between 15 and 20 May.
