Ljubljana, 6 May

French culture, from classic film to hiphop, will enliven Slovenia's streets and theatres, as the second French-slovenian Spring Festival gets underway in Ljubljana today.

A screening of the films "Premiere seance" by the brothers Lumiere and of Rene Clair's "Entr'acte" will kick off the festival Tuesday evening at the capital's Slovenian Cinemateque.
The festival, organized by the Charles Nodier French Institute in Ljubljana, will run throughout May.
As part of the festival, the Aerosculptures collective will flood the Ljubljanica River with floating sardine-shaped balloons for a week.
Ljubljana's Tivoli Park will continue to host "Alive," 92 wildlife photographs by acclaimed photographer Yann Arthus, through May. The outdoor photographic exhibition, sponsored by GoodPlanet.org, is accompanied by facts and figures on human intervention in nature and issues related to the survival of animal species.
The festival will also feature an evening of Francophone Africa's music and dance by the Badenja ensemble from Burkina Faso at Ljubljana's Stara Elektrarna (Old Power Plant) theatre.
Choreographer and dancer Yasmine Hugonnet will perform in the streets of Ljubljana, and the ensemble les Theatreux will present "les B@lges" by J.M. Piemm and P. Pourveur at theatres in Ljubljana and Koper.
Classical music fans will be treated to an homage to organist Olivier Messiaen at the Franciscan Church in Ljubljana, a concert of young musicians at the Narodni dom auditorium in Maribor, and a guitar recital by Genevieve Chanut at the City Museum of Ljubljana.
The beats of DJ Frederic Elalouf, also known as DJ Oof, will provide the festival's grand finale on 31 May on Ljubljana's main thoroughfare, Slovenska cesta.
