Tuerk and Mesic Back Efforts of Joint Border Commission
Attending a summit of presidents of Central European countries in Ohrid, Slovenian President Danilo Tuerk held several bilateral meetings on Friday and Saturday. He also met Croatian counterpart Stipe Mesic, with whom he expressed support for the latest joint efforts to solve open issues between the two countries.
In their first meeting following informal talks in February, Tuerk and Mesic discussed the situation in Eastern Europe and topical bilateral issues.
They described relations as good and praised the work of the joint commission tasked with resolving the border dispute. According to media reports, the pair did not discuss the latest incidents at the Secovlje border crossing.
Tuerk also met Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin, Bosnia's Haris Silajdzic and Albania's Bamir Topi, the office of the president said in a press release.
Silajdzic presented to Tuerk the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina, expressing concern over the postponement of the signing of the Association and Stabilisation Agreement with the EU. The pair expressed their wish that the agreement be signed as soon as possible.
The meeting with the Albanian president focused on bilateral relations, with Topi highlighting Albania's interest in strengthening economic cooperation and in an increase in Slovenian investments in Albania. He also invited Tuerk to an official visit to Albania.
Voronin and Tuerk discussed the situation Moldova, including the issue of Transdnestria. Voronin said Moldova was striving for the support of the EU in resolving the status of this region and for a renewed programme of cooperation with the bloc.
