Official Outlines Presidency Progress to EP Committee Chairs

Strasbourg, 22 April

European Affairs State Secretary Janez Lenarcic presented in Strasbourg on Tuesday the progress of the Slovenian EU presidency and its plans for the remaining two months to the Conference of Chairs of the European Parliament's Committees.

Lenarcic said after the meeting that the chairs were mostly interested in the plans for the remaining part of Slovenia's six months stint. They also expressed no criticism regarding the presidency, he added.
Lenarcic told the committee chairs, who were mainly interested in Western Balkans, that Slovenia hopes Serbia would sign the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU by the end of April, but definitely before its 11 May general election.
Regarding the EU's visa liberalisation policy, Lenarcic outlined Slovenia's efforts as the country proposed that as many Serbian citizens as possible get the chance to acquire a free visa.
The state secretary also expressed his satisfaction with the progress of Lisbon Strategy ratification, which is one of Slovenia's key priorities.
Cooperation between committee chairs and the Slovenian presidency is very good, according to Lenarcic.
