Jesenice Beat Olimpija to Become Slovenian Ice-Hockey Champs

Ljubljana, 9 April

Acroni Jesenice became on Wednesday the Slovenian ice-hockey champions for the 2007/08 season after defeating Olimpija from Ljubljana with 1:2 (0:2, 1:0, 0:0) to sweep the final series and take the 6th title since Slovenia's independence.

Jesenice won the first two matches of the series on the home ice with 6:2 and 6:1, and were better team also in the first game in Ljubljana with 2:1 to increase the lead in the best-of-seven series to 3:0.
Jesenice won the first three championships in the independent Slovenia (1991/92, 1992/93 and 1993/94 seasons) and were also the best team in the 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons.
Jesenice and Olimpija also play in the Austrian ice hockey league, with Olimpija recently losing the championship series to Salzburg with 4:2 in overall wins.
