Government Increases Minimum Wage by EUR 28

Ljubljana, 20 March

The government adopted on Thursday changes to the minimum wage act, increasing the minimum wage by EUR 28 to EUR 566.53 gross as of 1 March. The changes now need to be endorsed by parliament.

The decision comes after the Economic and Social Council, which represents both unions and employers, proposed to the Labour Ministry last Friday to draw up legislative changes to raise the minimum pay. The EUR 28 increase will be covered by the employers.
The rise reflects the rising retail prices, and is aimed at ensuring social security of the recipients, explained Labour, Family and Social Affairs Minister Marjeta Cotman at a press conference after the government session.
