Gospel Outfit Wins Life Achievement Award at Viktors
The legendary Slovenian gospel outfit New Swing Quartet, which has recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, was conferred the Viktor award for life-time achievements as Slovenia's biggest media industry awards were handed out in Ljubljana late on Saturday.
This was just one of the Viktor statuettes handed out at the ceremony, which was attended by the majority of Slovenia's who's who in media and show business.
The jury Viktor for special achievements in 2007 was conferred on Marko Nabersnik, the director of "Petelinji zajtrk" (Rooster's Breakfast), the top-grossing Slovenian movie of 2007, and on Bojan Kranjc, the editor of the national broadcaster TV Slovenija Sunday talk show "Tistega lepega popoldneva" (That Wonderful Afternoon).
Not all Viktors were awarded by a panel of media experts, as the event also allows viewers and listeners to vote for their favourite media personality online and by mail.
This resulted in a popular Viktor for Matej Spehar Racman, a speaker at Radio Center, while Zoran Predin was awarded as best musician.
TV personality popular Viktor went to news host Marko Potrc from private broadcaster Kanal A and MTV Adria won the Viktor for for best local, regional or cable TV.
New Swing Quartet - Oto Pestner, Tomaz Kozlevcar, Dare Hering and Marjan Petan - held their final concert as a band on 30 December. The outfit was modeled upon US's Golden Gate Quartet, with whom they shared the stage on several occasions.
