Education and Sport Minister Milan Zver signed a letter of intent with Kranjska gora Mayor Jure Zerjav on the sidelines of Saturday's World Cup ski flying event at Planica which is a step towards a modern nordic centre that is to be built there.
A few days ago the government earmarked EUR 3m for the plot on which the centre is to be constructed, while the municipality of Kranjska gora committed today to transfer to the state as the main investor the land on which the giant hill and Bloudek's old hill stand.
"The fairytale-like event we have seen in Planica today deserves to live on, but fact is the facility is in need of renovation," Zver said and promised that property relations would be settled by the end of the month.
While the land provided by Kranjska gora represents the bulk of the plots needed for the centre, the state will buy the rest from private owners. They will get EUR 18 per square metre. Zver said most of the owners were ready to sell.
The construction of a centre that is to include a stadium and a cross-country course is planned to begin in the autumn. While the estimate of the cost is not available, it will be the biggest investment in a sports facility in Slovenia ever.
