French, Slovenian Chief-of-Staff Discuss Peacekeeping Operations
Slovenian Chief of Staff Lt-Gen Albin Gutman and visiting French counterpart, General Jean-Louis Georgelin, discussed in Ljubljana on Wednesday cooperation in peacekeeping operations and bilateral cooperation.
Gutman told the press that the France-led peacekeeping operation in Chad would also include 15 Slovenian soldiers and the French general assessed the situation in the country as completely calm.
The pair assessed bilateral cooperation as good, with Gutman pointing to the training of Slovenian pilots for Cougar helicopters and the maintenance of the aircraft. Slovenia also trains its divers with the help of the French Navy.
The generals agreed that Slovenia and France face similar problems in reorganising their military forces. They confirmed that the countries wanted to boost their cooperation in defence.
Georgelin was also acquainted with Slovenia's EU priorities during the country's stint as EU president. France is to take over from Slovenia in the second half of the year.
Georgelin was also received by Defence Minister Karl Erjavec.
