Slovenia to Send Up to 15 Police to Kosovo Mission

Ljubljana, 10 March

Slovenia will send up to 15 police officers to the EU justice and policing mission in Kosovo, the Foreign Ministry has confirmed for STA. Deployed for a year, the Slovenian police will be involved in monitoring, training and advisory roles.

In addition to police, the EULEX mission will also include Slovenian judges and prosecutors. The Justice Ministry has confirmed it has notified the judicial authorities, while the Foreign Ministry is responsible for the application procedure.
EULEX - the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo - will take over from the UN mission in mid-June. By then some 1,800 police, justice and customs personnel will be deployed, in line with a decision the EU finalised in mid-February.
Headed by Yves de Kermabon, the biggest EU mission to date will help build up operative police, justice and customs systems. It will also help deal with organised crime.
