Ljubljana, 25 February

A festival of Slavonic literatures dubbed "Slavonic Bridge" will kick off on Thursday. The event, running until 8 May, will host a number of established Slavonic authors, including Russian Vladimir Sorokin and Polish Ewa Schilling.

The festival is the biggest literary event as part of the Year of Intercultural Dialogue during Slovenia's EU presidency. However, it will also feature authors from outside the EU.
Writers from Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Russia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Belarus, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Croatia and Ukraine will read from their works in ten reading sessions.
On 17 March, controversial Russian author Vladimir Sorokin, the winner of the Russian National Booker Prize of 2001, is to read from his books.
Iztok Osojnik, who selected the participating authors, told the press that the festival would feature only established writers. The organisers would like to make the festival a traditional event.
