Installation of Solar Flowers on Display in Brussels
Agriculture Minister Iztok Jarc opened in Brussels on Monday "The Solar Flowers Dancing for Europe - United in Diversity", an installation of 10,000 little solar powered flowers, which aims to highlight the issues of energy and climate change and point to the potential of renewable energy.
Jarc, the current chair of the EU Council for Agriculture and Fisheries, said that the amount of solar energy the Earth receives was 10,000 times bigger than the amount of energy that humans consume. "That is why we have 10,000 flowers here today," he added.
The minister added that the exhibition incorporated different priorities of Slovenia's EU presidency - energy, climate change, renewable energy sources and development aid.
The installation in the premises of the EU Council will be on display for two weeks, while the flowers will be sold after the exhibition, the Slovenian EU presidency said.
