Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel met on Friday with the Speaker of the Sobranje of the Republic of Macedonia. The main subjects under discussion were the bilateral cooperation between Slovenia and Macedonia and Macedonia’s drawing closer to Euro-Atlantic structures.
Minister Rupel and the Speaker of Sobranje Georgievski shared the opinion that relations between their countries are excellent and friendly. Mr Rupel also expressed his satisfaction with the successful visit and talks, taking place in Skopje on 1 February 2008. They also agreed that interparliamentary cooperation is very good.
During the meeting, Minister Rupel assured “further support to Macedonia on its path to the EU and NATO” and commended his guest on the progress achieved in the last few moths. He nevertheless highlighted that “Macedonia needs to continue its reforms and alignment with the EU acquis”. With regard to Macedonian integration into NATO, Minister Rupel emphasised that Slovenia firmly supports the position which provides an invitation for all three candidate countries at the Bucharest Summit.
The colleagues also discussed the current situation in Serbia and exchanged views on the situation in Kosovo.
