Economy Minister Andrej Vizjak and his visiting Irish counterpart John McGuinness discussed on Tuesday the Doha round of world trade talks, whose successful conclusion is main trade-related priority of Slovenia's EU presidency, the ministry said.
McGuiness said in Ljubljana that Ireland was hoping for a balanced outcome of the talks on various negotiating chapters. This is also the position of the Slovenian EU presidency, the ministry added.
The result of the talks on the Doha development agenda is a key issue for Ireland, as the country gears up for a May 2008 referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. In case of an unfavourable outcome of the talks, the treaty could be voted down, the Irish minister said.
The ministers also exchanged experience on high inflation after the euro changeover and agreed that causes for it could also be sought among the lack of competition in retail.
