Pediatrician Wins Slovenian Woman of the Year Award
Head of infant care unit at Ljubljana maternity hospital Lilijana Kornhauser Cerar was named on Thursday Slovenian Woman of the Year by readers of one of the most popular Slovenian women's magazines, Jana.
Being chosen Woman of the Year among 13 other nominees, Kornhauser Cerar said readers proved that humanity was rooted deeply in Slovenia. According to her, all 14 nominees should have been given the award, as their work and achievements reflects their strong values.
Successful women often have strong men supporting them, she told the audience, adding that one should not always look for ways to criticise the machismo system, but show respect to them men who threw off the burdens of the past.
The woman of the year award goes back to 1988, when the title went to Mojca Drcar Murko, who is now a member of the European Parliament. Last year's laureate was cardiologist Metka Zorc.
