Nicole Hosp of Austria took a commanding victory in the women's slalom meet in Maribor on Sunday to extend her lead in the overall World Cup standings and take the prestigious Golden Fox trophy.
Hosp (1:40.55), who was the leader after the first run, was 0.46s faster than hear nearest challenger, Veronika Zuzulova of Slovakia. Her compatriot Marlies Schield was third, 0.51s behind the winning time.
The win also secured the 24-year-old overall victory in the 44th Golden Fox competition (best combined result of Saturday's giant slalom and today's slalom) in Maribor.
Hosp had to overcome a soft and bumpy course, but confirmed her good form in the slalom for her second season win and fourth podium in the event.
"The bad weather made things difficult, but I gave it my best," said Hosp about her 11th career victory.
The best performance of the second run came from Schild, who leapfrogged Sarka Zahrobska (4th) and Tanja Poutiainen (5th) for third place.
None of the Slovenian competitors made it to he final run. Masa Ferk was the best of the bunch in 34th place.
The competition went ahead despite rain and high tempartures, which ate away at the course, which is situated at an altitude of less than 300 metres.
"Congratulations to the organisers for ensuring that things went ahead," said the director of the Slovenian Ski Association Jaro Kalan.
