The Slovenian Philharmonic celebrates its hundredth anniversary this year, marking it with a gala concert on 13 January, a number of concerts abroad and a performance of the opera "Ekvinokcij" (Equinox) by Slovenian composer Marjan Kozina.
The concert on 13 January will also mark the centenary of birth of composer Kozina (1907-1966), which was celebrated last year.
Before the concert, Culture Minister Vasko Simoniti is to unveil a bust of Kozina, who is considered one of the most important Slovenian composers of the 20th century.
The centenary will also be marked by the publication of "Sto let Slovenske filharmonije (1908-2008)" (Hundred Years of Slovenian Philharmonics (1908-2008)) by Primoz Kuret.
The orchestra will also hold concerts in Cannes, Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, St. Poelten and Zagreb in 2008.
On 12 March, the Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at the Palace of Fine Arts in Brussels, which will be the main cultural event in the city held as part of Slovenia's EU presidency over the bloc.
The Slovenian Philharmonic was established on 23 October 1908 in cooperation with the Glasbena matica music society and was first led by Czech conductor Vaclav Talich. The orchestra held its first concert on 8 November.
