The government adopted on Thursday the resolution on the National Programme for Culture for 2008-2011, which lays out the principles and guidelines of culture policy, determines the areas of public interest in culture and defines in 13 points the goals and priorities for the coming four years.
The resolution was drawn up by the Culture Ministry in cooperation with other ministries, the national culture council and other stakeholders. Following the course set out by similar documents adopted in the past, the 2008-2011 resolution sees the supporting of creativity as the central role of culture policy.
It strives to enforce the principle of providing more support to good projects through programme funds, infrastructure and promotion - at home as well as abroad.
Other strategic goals include: ensuring media freedom, supporting language and communication in a globalised world, preserving heritage, developing a cultural environment and enabling culture to contribute to development and employment.
The architects of the programme also followed the principle of expanding the field of culture with the possibilities provided by the EU, new technologies, and with new challenges that await the Slovenian language.
