Slovenians To Get Information Booklet on Schengen Zone
Slovenian households will next week receive an information booklet on Slovenia's accession to the Schengen zone entitled "Slovenia, a Schengen Novice", the Interior Minister Dragutin Mate told the press in Ljubljana on Friday.
Mate said the goal of the booklet was to inform the Slovenians in detail about the benefits and rules of the Schengen zone, ahead of the country's joining it on 21 December and taking over surveillance of its external border with Croatia.
The 12 pages booklet includes a description and a map of the Schengen zone, provides information on nine new members and explains the basic idea of the border-free zone and its history.
According to the minister, it also brings information about the procedures on internal and external borders for EU citizens and citizens of other countries and the documents they need. It also provides information about the Schengen Information System (SIS) and a map of all border crossings between Slovenia and Croatia.
The booklet was prepared by the Interior Ministry and the police authorities. Of 723,500 copies, 2,500 are in Italian and 6,500 in Hungarian, to be distributed to the two minorities in Slovenia. The costs of print and distribution will amount to EUR 103,000, Mate added.
