Bled, 7 December

The IEDC Bled School of Management on Friday presented for the first time honorary doctorates to three individuals who contributed greatly to the development of the region, business- and leadership-wise. The doctorates were conferred on changes management expert Ichak Adizes, acclaimed European leader figure Erhard Busek and education expert Aleksandra Kornhauser Frazer.

Adizes, the founder and president of the Adizes Institute in California, said at the occasion that changes had been present in the world from the beginning, however, their speed was growing increasingly.
He said that when the frequency of innovation was high, important strategic decisions had to be made more often, with management being very important in making the right decisions and implementing them.
Busek, special co-ordinator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe and a former Austrian vice-chancellor, focused on the changes of management in public life. He said that many were unsatisfied with the work of the EU, however this was not only the responsibility of those working in Brussels but the responsibility of all citizens.
He believes that one of Europe's main advantages lies in its diversity, which however needs to be accepted. In his opinion it is necessary to create a joint European public.
Kornhauser Frazer, director of the UNESCO International Centre for Chemical Studies, focused in her speech on knowledge management. She highlighted the importance of business intelligence, which enables the recognition of patterns and thus forecasts. We cannot predict the future, we can however prepare for it on the basis of forecasts, she said.
