Slovenia's EU presidency project will be backed up by 23 Slovenian companies which responded to a public call for partnership with the government during the presidency. They are to participate with their products and services, donations and discounts, a contribution estimated at EUR 500,000, Finance Minister Andrej Bajuk told the press on Friday.
According to Bajuk, the companies will in return be promoted at the Brdo congress centre and in the EU Council palace in Brussels. They will also be allowed to display the presidency logo on their products, said Bajuk.
The companies involved are mostly companies supplying products and providing services necessary for the presidency, ranging from transport, food, drink, telecommunication and electronics, to insurance services.
Mobile operator Mobitel and insurer Zavarovalnica Triglav are to provide their services in the form of donations and do not expect any promotion in return.
"A list of necessary goods and services was compiled first, and then the government sought companies capable of providing those goods and services," said Bajuk. Other companies are not excluded from the cooperation and are welcome to join any time, he added.
Bajuk hopes that such partnerships could also be established in other projects similar to the EU presidency. "Slovenia is still not used to this form of cooperation," said the minister, who is very pleased with the response from the companies.
Zmago Skobir, CEO of airport operator Aerodrom Ljubljana, which will promote Slovenia's EU presidency at the airport, said the reason for the cooperation was both business and promotion. "The majority of those attending the presidency events will go through the airport, take home their impressions and attract new guests," he added.
