Slovenian Health Minister Zofija Mazej Kukovic attended on Thursday the Food Safety Summit of the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA), stressing in her closing speech that the way people treat the environment affects the quality of food.
The main values should be "the air we breathe, the the water we drink, the earth that feeds us," Mazej Kukovic said according to a press release from the Health Ministry.
She stressed that the environment had a key impact on food quality, which is why it is crucial that the health aspect be included in all policies.
The summit was held to mark the fifth anniversary of the EFSA, which provides scientific risk assessment regarding food and feed safety.
Its role has however been expanding to cover cloning, animal welfare and intelligent food packaging.
