Ljubljana to Get Orthodox Metropolitan See

Ljubljana, 22 November

The head of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Slovenia Peran Boskovic presented to the press on Thursday plans for the construction of an Orthodox metropolitan see in Ljubljana, which is also to serve as a cultural and pastoral centre of the Serbian community.

"With the new home we will also get the spatial capacities to continue with the good dialogue with all religious communities and contribute to intercultural dialogue and tolerance," Boskovic said.
He explained that the multi-purpose building, to be completed by 2010, would be located in the centre of Ljubljana, in front of the church of St. Cyril and St. Methodius.
Due to the proximity of the Tivoli park, two of the building's four storeys will be hidden underground. Stretching over 1,760 square metres will be classrooms, offices, a library, a multimedia room and residential quarters. Boskovic said it would be a place of dialogue and understanding.
The project is estimated at EUR 3m, with Boskovic saying the Serbian Orthodox community would not be able the carry the entire financial burden alone. "We count on the support of the general public, also because the building and its multi-purpose facilities are intended for all the people of Ljubljana."
The Serbian Orthodox Church in Slovenia has been a part of the Metropolitanate of Zagreb and Ljubljana, which is based in Zagreb and covers Croatia, Slovenia and all of Italy.
