Slovenian flag carrier Adria Airways has confirmed an US$ 123m order of three Bombardier regional aircraft. Bombardier announced on Wednesday that Adria had ordered two CRJ 900 86-seat and one CRJ1000 100-seat jet, which are among the larger models in its range of CRJ regional jets.
Vice-chairman of Adria's board Marjan Ravnikar confirmed the order for STA on Thursday. He said that Adria would receive the first CRJ900 in 2008, while it expects to receive the other two jets at the end of 2009 or early 2010.
According to Ravnikar, the new jets will be used to expand commuter operations of the flag carrier, including through the launch of scheduled flights to Stockholm, Oslo, Athens, Bucharest in late 2008 and greater frequency of flights on existing routes.
He added that Adria was still deciding on how to finance the purchase, with leasing as the most likely solution. Adria, which is a member of the Star Alliance, already operates seven 50-seat CRJ200 regional jets and two 86-seat CRJ900 aircraft. The carrier is also a registered maintenance centre for the CRJ series of jets.
