Lenarcic and Hungarian Official Discuss EU Presidency

Ljubljana, 8 November

European Affairs State Secretary Janez Lenarcic received on Thursday his Hungarian colleague Gabor Ivan, discussing Slovenia's EU presidency priorities and the bloc's new reform treaty, the Government Office for European Affairs said.

With Hungary's preparations for its stint at the helm of the EU in the first half of 2011 already underway, Ivan was above all interested in Slovenia's experience in logistics and staff solutions. He also expressed Hungary's interest in close cooperation during Slovenia's presidency.

The pair also discussed the two countries' plans concerning the ratification of the EU reform treaty. Ivan expressed the expectation that Hungary would ratify the document in due time, while Lenarcic said Slovenia, as the presiding country, would do all in its power to bring the ratification process to a successful close.
Lenarcic and Ivan also touched on climate change and energy, with the Hungarian state secretary expressing support for Slovenia's plan to give the environment a prominent role during its EU presidency.
Ivan also met today the chair of the parliamentary EU Affairs Committee Anton Kokalj.
