Economy Minister Andrej Vizjak told the press after a meeting with his Macedonian counterpart Vera Rafajlovska on Monday that Slovenia and Macedonia should increase cooperation in a number of fields.
The ministers discussed cooperation and Vizjak suggested an upgrade of functions of a joint Slovenian and Macedonian economy commission in terms of concrete projects. Vizjak expressed his satisfaction over the increasing international trade between the two countries. He added that the trade was balancing, which proved that Slovenians were aware that Macedonian products are of good quality.
Currently, Slovenia exports mostly pharmaceutical products and household appliances to Macedonia, while Slovenian companies import mainly steel products and intermediate products.
However, Vizjak stressed the cooperation must be increased, since Slovenia and Macedonia could extend their cooperation particularly in finance, energy and tourism.
Vizjak also touched on Macedonia's bid to enter the EU, and said that Slovenia wanted Macedonia's accession negotiations to start during its stint a the helm of the EU in the first half of 2008.
Meanwhile, Rafajlovska said Macedonia was expecting an increasing number of Slovenian companies to come to Macedonia and thanked for the help Slovenia offered Macedonia in EU accession. She also expressed her satisfaction with Slovenian investments in Macedonia and noted that Slovenia was the tenth largest investor in Macedonia.
