Home appliance maker Gorenje opened a new storage and assembly facility in its kitchen furniture manufacturing centre in Maribor on Thursday. The new plant stretches over 4,000 square metres and is worth EUR 2m.
Gorenje CEO Franjo Bobinac, who performed today's ribbon-cutting along with Mayor of Maribor Franc Kangler, said the new plant "created opportunities for expansion of business and the range of high quality household products".
The centre in Maribor, part of the Gorenje Notranja oprema company, which specializes in interior equipment, comprises production, logistics, sale and after sale services. The company plans to manufacture more than 200,000 kitchen furniture parts in 2008, mostly for the EU market.
The Maribor hub, one of five in Slovenia, currently employs 250 people. Fifty were hired recently, while an additional 30 workers are expected to be needed shortly.
Gorenje Notranja oprema director Gregor Verbic said today that since its launch seven years ago, sales figures from the Maribor location had doubled. "We have invested between four and five million euros in this location so far and our goal is to turn it into the biggest production and distribution centre for kitchen furniture in SE Europe," Verbic added.
