Borstnik Meeting Theatre Festival Opens Today

Ljubljana, 12 October

The 42nd annual Borstnik Meeting, Slovenia's largest theatre festival, will open in Maribor late on Friday with the play "Cabaret" performed by Mestno Gledalisce Ljubljansko outfit from Ljubljana.

Before the opening performance, Maribor Mayor Franc Kangler and the director of Maribor's national theatre SNG Maribor Danilo Rosker, which is providing the stage for the festival, will address the audience.
A total of 17 plays are to be put on as part of the festival, including 11 in the competition section. The line-up has been chosen by outgoing selector Matej Bogataj, who has placed emphasis on social issues, particularly those faced by the middle class.
The main award of the event, which will be presented on 24 October, is the prestigious Golden Borstnik Ring for lifetime achievement in acting.
