Slovenian Musician Gives the Pope a Flame of Peace

Vatican City, 10 October

Slovenian musician Gianni Rijavec, the founder of the White Dove international peace foundation, was granted an audience by Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday and presented him a china lantern with a flame of love and peace.

The audience was an important step for the White Dove foundation, Rijavec said from the Vatican after meeting the pope. He had earlier presented the symbol of the his foundation, a white dove, also to Pope John Paul II in 2002 and the Dalai Lama the year before.
The flame of love and peace presented to the pope comes from a fire lit by mayors of several Slovenian and Italian municipalities located along the national border at a charity concert in 2005 in a town near Slovenia's Nova Gorica.
The White Dove foundation helps children in need, especially victims of war, and supports talented children.
