Bosnia-Herzegovina Interested in Cooperation with Slovenia
The president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) Zdenko Pavcek visited Banja Luka on Monday, also holding bilateral talks with Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik and Bosnia-Herzegovina Minister for Trade and Economy Slobodan Puhalac. Both expressed interest in cooperation with Slovenian companies.
Talking to Pavcek on the sidelines of a meeting that brought together the heads of chambers of commerce and industry from former Yugoslav countries, Dodik expressed a special interest in cooperation in energy infrastructure, according to Tuesday's press release from the GZS. Puhalac, also expressing an interest of Bosnia-Herzegovina in cooperation with Slovenia, said he wished to take part in a meeting of companies from the two countries that is to be organised by the GZS.
The participants of the meeting meanwhile discussed joint activities concerning the implementation of the 2006 Central European Free Trade Agreement and the forms of cooperation aimed at fostering trade in the region. According to the GZS, cooperation has been on the increase since last year, there are however still many open opportunities. The GZS believes that a more balanced trade is also the consequence of Slovenian investments into export-oriented manufacturing in the region, which stood at EUR 2.2bn last year.
Pavcek offered his colleagues the GZS's experience in EU accession projects and put forward the idea of GZS's hosting business clubs for companies from the region. The heads of the chambers welcomed the initiative. They also accepted Pavcek's invitation to meet again in Ljubljana during Slovenia's EU presidency in the first half of 2008.
The newly-elected president of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Milos Bugarin agreed to shortly visit Slovenia with a strong business delegation.
