His Royal Highness The Duke of York visited Slovenia as the UK's special representative for international trade and investment. Prince Andrew congratulated the Prime Minister Janez Jansa on the exceptional progress Slovenia has achieved since independence, expressing hope that this would continue in the future, and stressing that the United Kingdom was willing to share good practices in the field of public-private partnerships, among other things. Prince Andrew also wished Slovenia a successful EU Presidency and said that the UK would support Slovenia's efforts.

Italian President Signs Decree on Bilingual Municipalities
Italian President Giorgio Napolitano signed on Wednesday the decree that was the basis for enforcing the 2001 Slovenian minority act in 32 municipalities in the Italian Friuli Venezia-Giulia region. Zorko Pelikan, the head of the Government Office for Slovenians Abroad, welcomed the signing later in the day. More »

PM Janez Jansa presents nominations for Transport and Health ministers to the National Assembly
At today's extraordinary session of the National Assembly, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia presented his proposal to appoint Mr Radovan Zerjav the Minister of Transport, and Mrs Zofija Mazej Kukovic the Minister of Health. Prior to the session, both candidates were overwhelmingly approved by the competent National Assembly committees. More »

PM Jansa and representatives of parliamentary parties discuss resolving outstanding issues between Slovenia and Croatia
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Jansa, today met representatives of parliamentary parties and the group of unaffiliated deputies, to discuss the resolving of outstanding issues between the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Croatia. At a similar meeting on 27 August 2007, a decision was reached that before any further concrete steps would be taken, an opinion would be obtained from a coordination group of international legal experts about whether referring the border dispute with Croatia to the International Court of Justice in The Hague was in principle an acceptable option for Slovenia. Chamber of Commerce Unfazed by Strong Euro
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) is not concerned about the rising euro, which hit a record of 1.3927 against the US dollar on Thursday. Some 70% of Slovenia's exports go to the EU, so the strong euro is welcome, the GZS told STA. More »

EU Commissioner Expects a Lot from Slovenia's EU Presidency
European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Mariann Fischer-Boel said in Portugal's Oporto on Monday she expected a lot from Slovenia's spell as EU president in the first half of 2008. The Core Working Group discusses the Presidency programme
Today, the Core Working Group for the EU Presidency (CWG) headed by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Jansa, met at its September session to discuss preparations for the EU Presidency in the first half of 2008. The members approved the progress report on preparations between July and September and the operational work programme of subgroups for the final quarter of 2007. More »

EU Agrees to Let Croatians Enter Slovenia with ID Cards
