Prince Andrew Lauds Slovenia's Achievements

Ljubljana, 18 September

The Duke of York, Prince Andrew, praised Slovenia's achievements since it gained independence in 1991 as he met top Slovenian officials on Tuesday, including Prime Minister Janez Jansa and Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel.

Convinced that this trend would continue, Prince Andrew said in talks with Jansa that the United Kingdom was willing to share examples of best practice, for example in public-private partnership. Prince Andrew wished Slovenia a lot of success during its presidency of the EU in the first half of 2008 and pledged the UK's support for Slovenian efforts.
Jansa meanwhile presented Slovenia's experience with the introduction of the euro, the progress of economic and social reforms, and the good economic results Slovenia has been achieving lately, the press release reads.
Visiting Slovenia as an emissary of the British Foreign Office and the UK Trade and Investment, Prince Andrew has already held talks with Foreign Minister Rupel. Meetings with President Janez Drnovsek and Environment Minister Janez Podobnik are also planned.
At Jable Castle near Ljubljana, Prince Andrew is expected to take part in a conference that is part of an educational programme on energy for SE Europe.
The year-long educational programme was initiated by the British Embassy in Ljubljana, based on an energy community agreement signed in October 2005 by countries in the region.
